Creating an online persona...
After telling my friend about my intention to start up a digital marketing Instagram (you can follow it here @alison_digitalmarketing) she was really up for creating digital artwork for me. Just a few different pieces to post and also to create an avatar for me to use as a profile picture. I love her style of artwork and was so grateful she was willing to do it for me (you can follow her here @chlodesigns_) … posts will be up very soon!
One of the massive benefits of having artwork created for you is individuality which is such a respectable trait, but also so hard to find in this day and age.
Building an online persona is important as a brand, an individual or a business. Social media makes it so easy for us to do this and become personas we never would be in real life.
I first explored this concept in A Level Media Studies when looking at different theorists and their ideas about media - in all forms.
Unfortunately, we only ever touched on social media briefly in Media Studies, we focused mainly on film and visual content. But that A Level class was the only one I ever was interested in, it allowed me to analyse products in a creative way which I love doing! In fact, it’s something I now have to do as part of my role as a marketing assistant because I’m creating products of my own and I need to ensure that it does what I’ve created it to do. A good way to do this is to analyse it as if it was someone else’s work.
The increased number of my professional social media accounts allows me to explore the concept of an online persona all over again, except this time from a slightly different angle.
Running such a variety of business’ online profiles means that I can get really creative and approach content curation from so many different angles and present information in different ways depending on the client and the social media platform in question.
All this exploring down different avenues makes me realise the value of individuality and persona on social media platforms. Which is why I have only just started to appreciate the work my friend does from a marketing point of view - how valuable it can be to a business.
Creating original content can be so difficult and having an original piece of visual content is half the content battle won. After all, posts with an image produces 650% more engagement than a post that doesn’t!
