Top 5 Reasons To Use LinkedIn

Since starting my role as a marketing apprentice, I have been composing and posting LinkedIn posts for various respected business people in my local business community.
But part of my role as a manager for their LinkedIn profiles is not just to ‘run’ it, but to also find out who their competitors are and what they’re doing that my client should get on board with.

However; a care home owner client of mine has no competition on LinkedIn as there are very few care home owners on the platform.
This got me thinking, do business people not see the value of using LinkedIn?

So here is my 5 top reasons why you should have LinkedIn as a business person (or at least get someone to run it for you)!

1. Builds your online personality
At the end of the day, people buy people and so making sure that your personality shines through both on and off the screen is so important to not only you, but also to your business. Posting frequently to LinkedIn can help your audience get to know you better and on a more personal level.

2. Show your expertise
One of the biggest reasons I tell clients to be active on LinkedIn is to share their expertise of their field online. All my clients are respected professionals and have invaluable knowledge of their subject matter, but translating that into a social media post is always at the bottom of their list. Little do they know that 75% of HR departments are required to search job applicants online. That means that HR departments are Googling your name when you apply for their job. What’s the first result when you Google a name? A LinkedIn profile! Make sure yours is one to be proud of.

3. Recruiters and hiring managers use LinkedIn
Looking for a new job? Recruiters and hiring managers all use LinkedIn as a time-saving resource to find ‘the best in the business’. The more active you are on LinkedIn, the more discoverable your profile will become to these keen recruiters. What’s more, only 39% of job seekers are on LinkedIn so there’s not much competition to beat (don’t tell anyone I told you that…)

4. LinkedIn profiles build trust
Whether you are an employee, freelancer or small business owner - everyone you have the potential to win business from will look you up, especially in this day and age. Make sure that the stuff they find is things you’d want to say in person. Not embarrassing photos from last week’s night out!
