The evolution of Instagram
Social media channels are constantly involving and introducing new features with the aim of keeping its existing consumer engaged; as well as attract new ones.
Even ownership of these social platforms has changed; Facebook now owns Instagram - a social platform that has changed drastically over the last few years.
One of the first major changes I remember in the short time that I have used it is the stories. Snapchat was the first social platform to introduce this feature; however, other platforms were quick to realise how much consumers were engaged with it and saw the potential of that same feature being used on their own social platform.
In 2016, Instagram was the first to integrate Snapchat’s feature into its platform and it was a game changer for other social networks.
In the present day, even YouTube has a stories feature which allows consumers to feel even more connected to their favourite vloggers and film makers.
Over the last three years, the stories feature on Instagram has evolved drastically from when it first came about.
Within the last few weeks, Instagram has introduced the ‘quiz’ feature. This allows users to ask their followers questions and for the followers to answer.
Although at first glance this seems like a fun thing to do with friends, the possibilities for business use is endless.
Instagram is changing the game of conventional story sharing by boosting engagement and incentives for users to engage.
Instagram themselves have also seen the opportunity for business as it introduced story ads in March 2019.
With social media platforms changing all the time, it’s important to keep up with the changes and learn how to use them to their full potential.
